Анотація

The vermiform appendix, formerly deemed vestigial with limited functionality,has been a subject of contention and conjecture regarding its indispensabilityand potential hazards. This article aims to comprehensively address the reasonswhy appendectomy, the surgical excision of the appendix, may not be warrantedin numerous cases. By thoroughly scrutinizing the available scientific evidence, we aim to debunk prevalent theories surrounding the appendix and illuminate its actual functions. Our analysis suggests that retaining the appendix can bestow significant advantages and potentially obviate superfluous surgeries and associated complications.
